DORJDEREM Davaa I Даваагийн Дорждэрэм

Born in 1981, Mongolia. Works with mixed media creating sculptures, paintings, installations and photographs. His art addresses the circle of life and humanity’s relationship with nature. His private life often manifests itself in his art, e.g. by modeling surreal sculptures of his father or his wife. “For a young sculptor to engage successfully in topics such as male and female identity, old age and death, mythology and dream, […]as well as personal freedom is a tall order indeed. Achieving any of these well in any sculpture and avoiding the pitfalls of sentimentalizing one’s own culture is also no easy task. While An Opposite Freedom boldly suggests humanity’s eternal struggle with life and death, his […] installation […] Voice in the Space deals with the beginning of human life.“(Ian Findlay 2013, WSN Vol.19, No2, p.47) For the latter he won the People’s choice award at the APB Foundation signature art prize Singapore (2008). Founding member of art movement HUMAN NATURE LOVE FREEDOM, numerous exhibitions in Mongolia and abroad.
