DAGVADORJ Sereeter I Сэрээтэрийн Дагвадорж

Dagvadorj’s work is about history and tradition, and dreams in which we live and breathe while giving proper weight to the present. His works have a touching visual rawness and emotional frankness. He has won several prizes, among those one awarded by the Gwangju contemporary Art Biennale in South Korea for his installation “Roaring Hooves” (2000), marking a strong achievement for post-socialist Mongolian art. The work, exhibited at NordArt 2015, represents a creative emancipation from a time of state-led socialist realism towards a new conceptual approach to art as well as an opportunity to reflect on abandoned culture. Dagvadorj is one of the first artists to introduce the concepts of installation and performance art to the Mongolian audience.

Born in 1955, he studied at the Surikov Academy of Fine Arts in Moscow, Russia. He has not only been working as a successful painter and installation artist but also as teacher at the Institute of Fine Arts in Ulaanbaatar. Numerous exhibitions and prizes in Mongolia and abroad.
